Alan Stringer
I entered the funeral profession in the late 1970’s as a part time employee working under the direction of the late Mr. John V. Gover, until his retirement. In Sept. of 1980 I joined the Somerset Undertaking Co. Starting my apprenticeship that same year. I enrolled in the Mid America School of Mortuary Science in 1984 for my academic requirements. Graduating in 1985 and returning to work at Somerset Undertaking Co. and in 1986, a partner and I acquired the ownership of Somerset Undertaking Co. Our partnership was dissolved in 1988. In 1990 I sold the business to Arlington Corporation which later became Service Corporation International (SCI). I bought the business back from SCI in May of 1992 and have remained as Owner and Manager since that date. During the years of 1994 and 1995 Somerset Undertaking Company underwent a major expansion more that tripling the size of the existing building and a complete refurbishment of the 1864 building. In 2001 Somerset Undertaking Co. added a Crematory that is attached to its main facility, this is only one of a few in the State of Kentucky attached to a funeral home. Therefore Crematory was added to its official name. Somerset Undertaking Co. and Crematory. The crematory has made available to its clients families lower cost funerals and and Cremations and memorial services.
